Greg Norman doesn’t play much golf these days, but as tournament host, the former world No. 1 will be featured prominently at this week’s Franklin Templeton Shootout.

One of the PGA Tour’s longest-running unofficial money events, the Franklin Templeton Shootout will be contested for the 27th time this week. As always, tournament host Greg Norman and the folks at Tiburon Golf Club have prepared an exciting stage on which golfers can showcase their skill in some unconventional formats.

The Shootout isn’t your typical golf tournament. The first round, contested on Thursday, will be a scramble (so keep an eye out for uncannily low scores). Friday’s round will feature alternate shot, and the players will head for home with a final round of better ball on Saturday. A relatively rare Sunday off will cap the week in South Florida.

Also notable is the team format, a quirk of the Shootout since its inception. Thus, two winners will be crowned at the end of this week, and the prize money will be split.

Given all of these strange formats running about and the almost microscopic field size, and this is a notoriously difficult tournament to forecast. Just three years ago, Kenny Perry was one half of the winning tandem at the age of 52.

Still, we’ll use the trusty combo of course history and current form to try and get a sense of which teams project well for success. Let’s go twelve deep for the Shark’s Shootout.
