Tiger Woods: 30 Best Wins of His Career
By Matt Cochran
16. 2006 WGC-American Express Championship
The 2006 WGC-American Express Championship was one of those Tiger victories that exemplified how dominant he really could be. Woods won the event for the fifth time in his career and a fifth different venue. It was his sixth straight PGA TOUR win and eighth of the season.
With his eighth victory of the year, it made Tiger the first player in PGA TOUR history to win eight times in three separate seasons.
Woods set six tournament records with his victory, including the course record at The Grove Watford of 8-under 63. He set the 36-hole and 54-hole tournament record and broke his 72-hole tournament record by two strokes.
His eight-shot margin of victory is the largest in the tournament’s history, and it was Tiger’s largest margin of victory in the previous three years.
Eldrick would go on to win seven in a row to close out his 2006 season.
