5. 2006 British Open

The 2006 Open Championship might be the most emotional victory of Tiger Woods’ career. Just months after his father Earl’s death, Woods won his first victory without his guiding light around to see it.

Woods was paired with Sergio Garcia in the final grouping and, per usual, Garcia collapsed under the pressure with a 73, allowing Tiger to coast to his second consecutive British Open and third overall.

With his father not there to hug him after tapping in on the 72nd hole, Tiger embraced his caddie at the time, Steve Williams. It’s a powerful scene and one of the most emotional scenes we’ve witnessed in his career. When asked about the hug with Stevie, Tiger responded:

"“It just came pouring out of me, all the things my dad meant to me, and the game of golf. I just wish he could have seen it one more time. I’ve never done that before. You know me.”"
