Tiger Woods: 30 Best Wins of His Career
By Matt Cochran
27. 2005 Ford Championship at Doral
The Doral Open was around for 45 seasons and ended in 2006. Tiger Woods won the finally two events in the tournament’s history, and he started his run in 2005.
Tiger went head-to-head with Phil Mickelson in the final group on Sunday and beat out Lefty on the 71st hole. Woods battled from two down and took the lead after draining his eagle putt on the 12th hole, but Mickelson responded with two consecutive birdies to tie it again.
On the 17th hole, Mickelson barely missed his chip for birdie and Big Cat took advantage by making his birdie putt. Woods took the lead into the 18th hole and held on to take down Lefty in their Sunday showdown.
With the win, Tiger regained the No. 1 ranking in the world from Vijay Singh. He’d go on to successfully defend his title the next season in what was the final event of the tournament’s history.
The 2005 Ford Championship at Doral was one of the best Tiger-Phil matchups golf fans have seen and an even bigger victory for Tiger’s career.
