Tiger Woods: 30 Best Wins of His Career
By Matt Cochran
25. 2009 Australian Masters
Before Tiger had the windows of his Escalade smashed out with a nine iron, he spent his final week of normalcy in Australia at the 2009 Australian Masters. It was his first event on Australian soil since 1998, and the last victory before his whole life turned upside down.
Woods was given a $3 million appearance fee to show up, as he was expected to bring the state $12.54 million in economic benefits with the crowds he would attract.
He won the tournament with rounds of 66-68-72-68 and held off Greg Chalmers, and Jason Dufner came in second and third. It was the first win of Tiger Woods’ career in Australia.
Little did Tiger know that the New York Post was about to drop a bomb on Eldrick’s career. The paparazzi caught Rachel Uchitel checking into the same hotel as Big Cat that week in Australia, setting up for the downfall of his career in the next weeks to come.
