One of the many things that are impressive about Royal Birkdale is the fact that the course has hosted something of significance since the 1940’s.

In 1948, Royal Birkdale hosted The Walker Cup, in 1954 The Open Championship was held at Royal Birkdale. The Open Championship came back in 1961, 1965, and the Ryder Cup took place in 1969, as well.

Royal Birkdale held the 100th edition of The Open Championship in 1971, in the 80’s Royal Birkdale held two Ladies’ British Open Championship. And finally, Royal Birkdale held The Open Championship in 1991, 1998, 2008, and will be holding another Open Championship in 2017.
