Pinehurst Resort has nine courses on its property, but we want to focus on the famed Pinehurst No 2 course that has held four U.S. Opens, a PGA Championship, and a Ryder Cup

#20. Pinehurst (No. 2)

Established: 1907

Location: Pinehurst, North Carolina, United States

Designed: Donald J. Ross

Type: Private

Par: 70

Length: 7,565 yards (6,917 meters)

Pinehurst No 2. has seen its fair share of drastic changes over the years.

In 1999, the year Payne Stewart won, Pinehurst was about as green as you can get, but that wasn’t the original design of the course.

In 2011, Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore wanted to revert Pinehurst No. 2 back to the original Donald Ross. The changes were made in time for the 2015 U.S. Open.

With so much brown and dirt some people aren’t crazy about the course, but others like it and think it’s fine. Obviously, I fall on the side of it being a good looking course. Pinehurst No. 2 has its own identity.

Pinehurst has been a hot spot of late hosting three U.S. Opens, a Women’s U.S. Open, and a U.S. Amateur Championship since 1999.

The Tour is scheduled to return to Pinehurst No. 2 for the 2024 U.S. Open.
