As far as history is concerned, Shinnecock Hills was established in 1891 and is the oldest formal organized golf club in the United States.
Shinnecock Hills Golf Club hosted the 1896 U.S. Amateur Championship and the 1896 U.S. Open Championship.
It went on a major hiatus as it underwent numerous of changes throughout the years. It wasn’t until 1977 when Shinnecock would go on to host the Walker Cup.
Since then it has hosted three U.S. Opens and is scheduled to host another U.S. Open in 2018.
