Merion Golf Club is one of your classic U.S. Opens. It has only been the host of five U.S. Opens, but there have been some very worthy winners and incredible moments over the years.
Merion Golf Club played host when Ben Hogan made his return to golf as he won the 1950 U.S. Open in a playoff defeating Lloyd Mangrum and George Fazio.
It was Hogan’s triumphant return as he returned to play golf after coming off a near fatal car accident.
In 1971 featured the duel between Lee Trevino and Jack Nicklaus in which an extra eighteen holes would be needed. Trevino would eventually prevail
Merion is a classic U.S. Open course that offers a stiff test, and those wicker baskets are a neat addition, as well.
