When you think of the U.S. Open, you think of rough and tough conditions where the winning score might not be close to even-par. Oakmont is the definition of that.
There is a reason Oakmont Country Club has hosted the most U.S. Opens. Oakmont is just a classic course.
When you look at it, it doesn’t seem hard at all. It’s all right out there in front of you, no tree, just wide open spaces, but winners are regularly and consistently over-par. When you aren’t, you are doing something special.
That’s why Johnny Miller’s final round of 63 -a U.S. Open record – was so extraordinary.
Oakmont isn’t a one-trick pony, though, Oakmont has hosted three PGA Championships, five U.S. Amateur Championships, and two U.S. Women’s Open.
