Bethpage Black is one of the hardest golf courses in the world, so hard that a warning sign greets you as you walk up to the course

#25. Bethpage (Black)

Established: 1936

Location: Farmingdale, New York, United States

Designed: A.W. Tillinghast

Type: Public

Par: 71

Length: 7,468 yards (6,829 meters)

Bethpage Black is one of those golf courses that is open to the public, anybody can play, but the caveat is you might want to be a highly skilled golfer.

As far as I know, Bethpage Black is the only course in the world that has a sign that says, hey you know, you can play this course, but it’s pretty tough, and you might not have a good time if you aren’t an extremely skilled player.

Now, I would like to play Bethpage just to experience just how hard it is, but I would have to be alone without anybody watching.

I don’t think my ego could take the double whammy of hacking around Bethpage Black while people are laughing at me in some Beavis & Butthead montage.

In 2002, Bethpage Black became the first publicly owned course to host a U.S. Open. Bethpage Black hosted another U.S. Open Championship back in 2009 and hopefully it will host again sometime shortly.

Bethpage Black has also been host to The Barclays in 2012, and will host The Barclays in 2016, 2021, and 2027.
