Let’s take golf towels and golf caps off the list right now.

Golfers always need tees. There are practically endless options, from those basic packages at WalMart to Zero Frictions and Champs and Martinis and personalized tees. Pick one and drop it in the stocking.

What about a new range finder? From the lightweight, compact Nikon Coolshot that you can pick up for about $150 to Bushnell’s Tour X model with a $500 price tag that’s equipped with Slope Technology and in approved for tournament use, the possibilities are very broad.

There’s nothing like some socks as a stocking stuffer! Golfers also always need socks and there is no shortage of options. Bubba Watson won’t wear anything but KentWool’s and they’re certainly fine socks that hold up well under the wear and tear of a golf round, but as with most things, they’re not the only option.

Both KentWool and Legend make compression socks, which are worth another look if you’ve overlooked them in the past. KentWool’s are merino wool and Legend’s are a thinner synthetic fabric, which I personally prefer.  They resemble socks for old people about as closely as diamonds resemble chunks of coal.

Speaking as a diabetic who struggles to manage neuropathy in my feet, I’m a strong advocate of compression socks. Legend makes golf socks and a more general, knee-high compression sock for athletes and they both reduce my neuropathy symptoms. The advertised benefits – improved athletic performance – and the style options – I color coordinate with my golf shoes – make this a must have item.

More than anything else, golfers need balls. We always need balls. Don’t forget the golf balls! If you’re in doubt about brand and model, just buy a bag of practice balls for backyard practice this winter.
