  • In a year where any number of players executed any number of amazing golf shots, I’m going to tip my hat to Sei Young Kim for that pair of shots that got her the win at the Lotte.

The LPGA Rookie of the Year was really strutting her stuff in Hawaii as she went head-to-head against Inbee Park.

Kim had already notched her 1st rookie year victory at the Pure Silk-Bahamas and she would go on to add a 3rd win at the Blue Bay LPGA before the season ended, and I won’t even start listing those 8 additional top-10 finishes she recorded, but her Hawaii performance was a stunning display of athletic focus under fire.

First, from 18 yards out on the 72nd hole Kim chipped in from off the green to force Inbee into a playoff and then she holed out from 154 yards – actually, she bounced the ball into the cup – for an eagle to win the match.

Kim reported that Inbee Park said two things to her after that ball bounced in for the winning eagle: “How did you get that in?” and “Congratulations.”

I wonder as I look back over 2015 how the coming season can possibly match these moments and yet I know that we’re looking forward to a year that will be filled to overflowing with great moments in women’s golf, on the Ladies European Tour, on the LPGA, on the Korea, Japan and China tours, at the USGA events, in collegiate golf, and at the Olympics.
