Shame on the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Dame Laura made the memorable spotlight twice this year, but the second time – her induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame – was truly disgraceful.

Yes, Dame Laura earned her way into the Hall of Fame and well-deserved the honor. But the World Golf Hall of Fame bumbled her induction in a big way, scheduling it so close to the end of the US Women’s Open that Dame Laura practically had to strap on a personal jet pack to get there.

I wasn’t alone when I steamed over the empty chair representing this icon of women’s golf. Karrie Webb turned the air blue. Meg Mallon blasted the organizers and Ron Sirak called it what it was – a snub, to the woman and to women’s golf.

If there’s a bright side to this – and there’s always a bright side if you look hard enough – it was the outcry of protest, which tells me that women’s golf – the players, the writers, the fans – isn’t going to tolerate the kind of blatant discrimination and second class citizenship in the golf world that its endured for more than 300 years.
