Mel Reid turned pro in 2007 after a promising amateur career that she capped off with low amateur honors at that years Women’s British Open, where she finished T16th. Reid struggled to qualify for the Ladies European Tour, played for a year on sponsor invites, found her pro game, and in 2008 was recognized at the LET’s Rookie of the Year.

Her career rolling forward, Reid notched her first pro victory at the 2010 Turkish Airlines Ladies open, and then added two more wins to her resume in 2011 and earned her spot on the 2011 Solheim Cup European team.

Reid’s life unraveled in 2012 when her mother was killed in a car wreck. Her game disappeared and, by her own admission, her life was “a mess.”

"“I wasn’t coping, I was rebelling. I was spending time with people who partied. I was hitting the self-destruct button. I was with a lot of people, but I was lonely.”"

Three years later, with the help of good friends on the LET, a new coach, and a great deal of hard work, Mel Reid was back in the game; and her 2015 performances have left me tingling. She epitomizes competitive excellence.

I salute Melissa Reid for her personal triumph and professional achievements!
