Having turned down a vice captain position, Phil Mickelson believes he has a chance to play his way onto Team USA.

The clear outlier on this list, Mickelson did very little during regular PGA Tour events in 2015 but was on his game for the majors, tying for second at the Masters. With more events counting in the new year, he might seem like a good bet to fade in the standings, but if Lefty continues his sterling record in majors and WGCs, he actually still has a great chance.

It’s telling that Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk accepted vice captain roles and Mickelson declined. The 45-year-old is still deeply committed to making the team. If nothing else, it will be fascinating to see if he can fight his way on.
