The 21-year old Matthew Fitzpatrick was beat out for the Rookie of the Year award, but Fitzpatrick still had a strong year which included a win at the British Masters
Like Byeong-Hun An, this was Matthew Fitzpatrick’s first full year on the European Tour and what may come to a surprise to some was that he didn’t win the European Tour Rookie of the Year.
As we talked about in the previous slide, Byeong-Hun An won the European Tour Rookie of the Year becoming the first Asian golfer to do so.

Like BHA, Fitzpatrick closed the season off in a very strong way. Fitzpatrick went on a run where he made the cut in nine of his last ten starts and he finished inside the top four in five of those starts, including a win at the British Masters.
Fitzpatrick carries a lot of momentum into next year and we’ll see if he can keep it up.
One of the questions I pose – and we won’t know the answer to this for many years – but who will have the better career? Byeong-Hun An or Matthew Fitzpatrick?
I suppose if I had to give an answer, personally, I think Fitzpatrick will have the better career.
I like Fitzpatrick’s game and I think he has the game and the mental make up to win at least a major some time in his career. I’m still not quite sold yet on Byeong-Hun An in the mental department. I feel that’s where he needs to grow if he wants to take that next step.
