8. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 was a fantastic game on the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube era of consoles, but cracks developed in the franchise in making the transition to the then next generation of consoles.
Developed: Headgate Studios
Published: EA
Release Date: September 2005
As we talked about earlier, the early Tiger Woods games were laying the groundwork and the foundation of a fantastic gaming series.
As I do this list and look back I believe you could point to Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 as the end of an era. This is where the cracks started showing themselves.
This was the first game to make the jump to the new generation of consoles – the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 – and like a lot of sports games developed by EA Sports, the jump to the next generation wasn’t a smooth transition.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 lost a lot of features when moving over to the new generation of consoles. And it took a number of years for EA Sports and EA Tiburon to find their sea legs on the new consoles.
However, this game was on the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube which is where this game excelled for yet another year.
The gameplay was still strong and this game had a very cool and unique feature where you could travel to the different eras and face off against the legends of golf such as Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan, and Arnold Palmer.
The downside to this mode was the fact that these legends didn’t play like legends. They played like your average, everyday golfer which made for an easy time. They didn’t have their own identity that made them legends in the first place.
On the PlayStation 2, this was yet another fantastic entry to the Tiger Woods franchise, however, this game does get dinged as the game wasn’t complete on the then next generation consoles.
