5. Links 2003

Like the Jack Nicklaus series, Links 2003 was another alternative golf game that would lock the gates soon enough.

Developed: Microsoft

Published: Microsoft

Release Date: October 2002

We talked about the Jack Nicklaus series and how it struggled to move units. The same could be said about the Links series.

This was a fantastic golf series, but it was stuck on the PC which was a waning way to play games and thus never got in front of enough people.

In terms of realistic gameplay and ball physics this is a truly top class game. This was, and is, an all-time great golf game which is why it cracked the top five on this list.

Like Jack Nicklaus 5, Links 2003 had an expansive course designer and it gave you the ability to download other courses online.

PC Gaming has seen a resurgence of late thanks in large part to Steam. I know the Jack Nicklaus series won’t be back, but I would like to see the Links series come back for one more go.

With PC Gaming making a come back and with golf growing in some ways, I think the potential for a Links game to make some sales is there. More competition out in the market is always a good thing for the consumer.
