LPGA: Ten 2015 Hot Shots
Wie’s wedge play at Evian convinced me she was finally back at 100%.
While all eyes were on Lydia Ko at Evian, I was utterly enchanted as much by Michelle Wie’s pink high-tops as by her golf game. Like every other Team USA Solheim Cup fan, I was monitoring Wie closely, looking for any sign of that limp that had seemed to be painfully limiting the previous month at the US Women’s Open. Thankfully, there was no limp.
Wie got off to a bumpy start at Evian-les-Bains. She was 3-over par at the turn in her first round and there was an ugly double bogey on her card. She added two more bogeys after the turn but by the 15th hole she seemed to be settling into her rhythm. Then, after another errant tee shot into the rough on the 18th, she got herself back into position but was faced with that approach over the water hazard.
This was the shot that convinced me Wie was in perfect form at Evian. She went on to recover from that disappointing 1st round 75 with three sub-par rounds (66, 70, 70) and a T16 finish.
