After finding his groove towards the end of the year, Chris Wood will attempt to make his first Ryder Cup team.
Yes, Wood notched a European Tour victory in 2015, but that’s not what got him to such a lofty position on the points list. In fact, the Englishman has been surging for weeks now; since tying for fourth at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, Wood has added five top 15s, including a solo second at the Portugal Masters and a solo third at the Nedbank.
While he’s never come close to landing on a Ryder Cup team, every squad has its share of unexpected heroes–remember Jamie Donaldson in 2014? If Wood can keep riding his newfound consistency, that’s exactly the type of role he’d be able to assume next fall.
