Women’s Golf: 10 to Watch in 2016
Gerina Piller’s breakthrough moment may have come at the 2015 Solheim Cup.
Gerina Piller will be starting her 6th year on the LPGA Tour and she’s still hunting her first pro victory, but something happened to Piller in Germany. I think she found her mojo in that Sunday afternoon putt that kept the United States in the game.
I wasn’t at all surprised when Piller wrapped up 2015 with a runner-up finish at the CME Group Tour Championship. She’s as powerful as Lexi Thomson off the tee and, like Thompson, she’s struggled with her short game in general and her putting in particular.
If Piller learned anything about herself in Germany, it’s that she has a superb short game and nerves of steel. No matter that she collapsed weeping into Martin’s arms when it was done. She did not flinch or hesitate when she rolled that putt, even if Juli Inkster couldn’t bring herself to watch. I think it may have been Gerina Piller’s breakthrough moment.
