Brooke Henderson earned her LPGA tour card with her win at the 2015 Cambia Portland Classic. It was the largest margin of victory recorded at a Tour event in 2015 and with it Henderson joined a very elite group of sports prodigies – golfers who have won a pro event before their 18th birthday. Now there are three: Henderson, Lydia Ko and Lexi Thompson.
There’s absolutely no doubt about the quality of Brooke Henderson’s game and her commitment to competitive excellence has been well-demonstrated through her year-long battle to earn a spot on the big stage.
Fighting a number of factors in 2015, Henderson competed on the LPGA Tour as an outsider and has already made her presence known: 2014 and 2015 top-10 finishes at the US Women’s Open; T5 finish at the 2015 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship; one missed cut in 2015.
Now she’ll have a chance to compete as an insider and I’m looking for Henderson, who’s currently ranked 18th by Rolex, to make an unabashed bid for the top of the rankings. She’ll have competition, to be sure, but Henderson has already shown us that she knows how to handle the competition. Look for her to do just that this year with panache and finesse.
