This is Stacy Lewis’s year to hoist the US Women’s Open trophy.

In addition to defending champion In Gee Chun, Inbee Park has won the US Women’s Open, twice), and Michelle Wie, Na Yeon Choi, So Yeon Ryu, Paula Creamer and Cristie Kerr are all past champions who will be in the field.

However, I don’t see the 2016 US Women’s Open champion coming from the pool of past champions. This will be the year that Lydia Ko and Stacy Lewis battle it out, but they’re going to have company. Brooke Henderson is a likely contender, as are Lexi Thompson, Sei Young Kim and Hyo Joo Kim. And although she’s still on the hunt for her first pro stroke play victory, I think it’s very possible that Alison Lee could get herself into contention.

That said, my pick for the US Women’s Open is Stacy Lewis. The 2011 Kraft Nabisco (now ANA Inspiration) champion, the 2013 Ricoh Women’s British Open champion, with 11 career victories and 77 additional top-10 Tour finishes, knows how to deliver a championship-level game when the pressure is greatest.

This is her year to hoist the US Women’s Open trophy at CordeValle.
