I’m looking for Morgan Pressel to get out in front this week and end up leading the field come Sunday.

There are several very solid choices for a Pick-4 team in the second tier.

Tony Jesselli is giving high marks to three of the players in this group: Jessica Korda, Azahara Munoz and Gerina Piller. Korda won the Pure Silk-Bahamas in 2014 but finished outside the top-20 last year. Munoz finished inside the top-10 in 2015 but she didn’t otherwise have a particularly strong season. I’d be surprised to see either of them in contention on the Ocean Club track come Sunday.

Piller’s a solid choice. She finished last year’s Pure Silk-Bahamas inside the top-10 and while she’s still on the hunt for her first Tour victory she had a transformative moment at the Solheim Cup and she brought her 2015 season to a stunning close. Like Tony, I look for her to come out swinging hard and strong.

From within the 2nd group I also gave Austin Ernst and Alison Lee a close look.

Although Ernst missed the cut last year, as well as a number of others during the first half of the season, she seemed to turn her game around somewhere around the WalMart NW Arkansas Classic last June. If she used her vacation time wisely I’m looking for Ernst to be in contention this week.

  • Alison Lee is starting her sophomore year on the Tour and she’s going to notch her first win at some point this year. Could it be this week?  Perhaps. She, too, missed the cut last year and she, too, turned her game around. By May and the Kingsmill we all knew she would become a force to be reckoned with, and she has.

My personal pick from this group, however, is Morgan Pressel, and I’m looking for her not only to play the weekend but to be in serious contention come Sunday. She followed up her slow start to the 2015 season with a series of very close misses. She arrived early this week and was hard at work while many other players were still traveling. I get the feeling that she’s primed and ready to finally hoist another trophy.

Pressel can’t compete off the tee with the big bombers like Lincicome and Piller and Thompson but her short game will come into play in a big way.
