Tshwane Open Fantasy Golf Power Rankings
By Ryan Andrade
The Tshwane Open will test a number of emerging European Tour players.
With the desert swing now over, the European Tour makes it was to South Africa and the 4th edition of the Tshwane Open. Many of the highly ranked European Tour players are either resting up for the Maybank Championship and the Tour’s Southeast Asian swing or making the trip to the U.S. to get themselves ready for Augusta National the Master’s. However, there’s no shortage of young South African players in the Tshwane Open field.
The Tshwane Open should give people a good idea of where South African golf will be in the future, as a plethora of young potential stars will be battling for the hardware.
The event is contended at the Pretoria Country Club. The course is a par-70, 6830 yard track, relatively short by today’s tournament standards. Look for guys who are excellent wedge players to contend this week, as you are going to have a lot of them. Like always, even at a short course distance is always an advantage. It will be important when trying to fly over some of the strategically placed bunkers on this course.
Dawie van der Walt won the inaugural event back in 2013. Last year the event moved to the Pretoria Country Club and it was George Coetzee who was able to hold on and win by a single stroke.
The weather is predicted to be hot, as you might expect for South Africa. The temperatures are supposed to hit 90 every day of play. The guys are probably wishing the European Tour would make it legal for them to be wear shorts. However, with the most of the field being South African’s, they will be plenty used to the weather and it shouldn’t be a factor.
Let’s take a look at my ranking of the top ten contenders heading into tee time.
