Golf Rules: Twenty That Aren’t in the Book!
Do your part to maintain a steady pace of play.
We’re out on the golf course to relax and enjoy ourselves, but that doesn’t mean we’re out there to lollygag our way through a 5 hour round. Do your part. It starts before you get to the first tee.
Make sure you have what you need in the way of balls, towels, cap, jacket, sweater, golf glove, snacks and beverage before you hop into your golf cart and leave the rally point for the first tee. There’s nothing quite as annoying as a start that’s delayed by someone who forgot a piece of equipment and needs to dash back to the car.
On the course, assess your situation and make your club selection while your playing partners are setting up and taking their shots. It will not only help maintain the pace of play. It will help to keep you focused on your game. It will strengthen your course management skills.
A practice swing or two or even three is fine. Seven is probably excessive and likely won’t improve the outcome. Bite the bullet and hit the ball.
Get out of your cart and walk to your ball while your cartmate is getting set up to take her shot. The walk will add some steps to your daily count and give you some mental space to think about your own shot. When in doubt about club choice, take two or three. Golf clubs aren’t that heavy.
