Australian Women’s Open Fantasy Golf Picks
Mel Reid could emerge at the top of the board this week.
Because the Australian Women’s Open is a tri-sanctioned event the field is much broader than typical LPGA tournaments, and this becomes very apparent in Group 2. There are some familiar names – Gwladys Nocera, who plays on both the LPGA and the LET is probably the most familiar of the European players to American fans.
Don’t overlook Mel Reid. I tagged this Solheim Cup European Team standout as a player to watch in 2016. She’s just reclaiming her game and what a game it is.
Holly Clyburn is a promising young Scot who’s transitioning from the LET to the LPGA and I look for her to deliver a solid, steady performance this week and throughout the season.
Beth Allen is an American who plays on the LET and notched an impressive first win last year at the Ladies European Masters with, of all people, Sophie Gustafson, on her bag! I don’t know if Gustafson is looping for Allen this week but if she is, I’d be very tempted to put Beth Allen on my team. (It’s kind of like having Annika on the bag!)
Then there’s Marianne Skarpnord, who has played very good golf in Australia, and Rebecca Artis, who is a local girl and will be playing on comfortable turf with solid fan support. I look for them to both play well this week, although not necessarily to the top of the board.
