Golf Gear: ProGolfNow’s Early Spring Shopping Guide
Break away from that pile of logo-littered caps. You have options!
You may already have a rain hat that you love and that does the trick, but if you’re not happy with your rain hat take a look at the Seattle Sombrero. It’s not marketed as golf gear but that’s how I use it.
The gor-tex is waterproof and breathable, there are nifty little velcro tabs on each side that let you affix the brim to the hat – you can get a sort of jaunty Aussie effect if you’re so inclined – and the brim is sufficiently stiff to stay put and redirect the rain away from your face while you’re taking a shot or lining up a putt. It’s soft so you can roll it up and shove it in a pocket in your bag when the rain stops.
You don’t play golf in the rain? Then you probably don’t need a Seattle Sombrero, unless you just like the look.

I’ve also borrowed from the running industry for my headwear. I’m loving those lightweight runner’s caps. They’re ventilated to keep the air flowing and they have all kinds of wicking capacity that my huge pile of abandoned cotton golf caps just can’t match.
When the temperature starts pushing up into the 90s I just stick my little lightweight caps under the water every time I pass a cooler on the course and I have built-in air conditioning for my tete.
If you haven’t discovered these caps you need to get busy and take a look. Dicks, Amazon and Nike would be the place to start.
