Honda Classic Power Rankings at PGA National
By Sam Belden
After narrowly missing out on a Pebble Beach playoff, Phil Mickelson will return to action at PGA National.
This year’s West Coast swing has given us some great shots and thrilling moments, but all good things must come to an end. This week, the PGA Tour heads southeast for the Florida swing, a four event slate that includes a World Golf Championship event and a tournament hosted by the King himself, the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Before we get to any of that, however, we have the Honda Classic at PGA National, traditionally one of the toughest tests on the PGA Tour schedule. The winner hasn’t gotten to double digits under par since Rory McIlroy did it in 2012, and the course’s signature Bear Trap–the 15th, 16th and 17th holes–is one of the most menacing three-hole stretches in all of golf.
For many years, the Honda featured a weaker field than most other PGA Tour events, but that changed sometime around the mid-2000’s. A number of golfers who lived in the Palm Beach area, including Tiger Woods, started to play the event with more regularity, and it now habitually features many of the world’s top players. This week, four of the world’s top 10 and 11 of the top 20 will be in attendance.
Without further ado, let’s get to it. Here are some of the best bets for success at the Honda Classic.
