DORAL, FL – MARCH 03: A spelling error is seen on the back of Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland’s caddie bib on J.P. Fitzgerald on the 10th hole during the first round of the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral Blue Monster Course on March 3, 2016 in Doral, Florida. It was an exciting first round at the WGC-Cadillac Championship on Thursday, unless your name is Rory McIlroy. Check out this spelling gaffe by tournament organizers.

The first round of the WGC-Cadillac Championship took place on Thursday with one of the strongest fields the PGA TOUR has seen this season. Not only is the field strong, but the groupings in the first two rounds are even stronger.

One of PGA TOUR Live’s featured groups on Thursday consisted of Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, and Jason Day. The No. 1, 2, and 3 golfers in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Watching these three golfers compete against each other was exciting enough. Three of the best golfers in the world in the same group at one of the toughest tournaments of the year. As a golf fan, it’s hard to ask for much more during a Thursday round.

The trio started off with birdies on the par-5 10th hole and kept things pretty even keel throughout the rest of the round. Jason Day ended up shooting an even round of 72 and Jordan Spieth finished with (-3) 69.

While the golf itself was enough to get pumped up about, it was the antics involving Rory McIlroy and his caddie JP Fitzgerald that had people talking.

I was watching the PGA TOUR Live featured group when I noticed something unusual about the caddie bib Fitzgerald was wearing. Luckily, there is a 10-second rewind button so I was able to do a double take and, sure enough, something odd was happening.

HIS NAME WAS MISSPELLED!

Yes that’s right, even the No. 3 golfer in the world can’t catch a break. I shared a good laugh, screencapped it, and took to Twitter to share the unfortunate misspelling.

Eventually, JP either noticed the mishap or someone told the caddie because he quickly wore a towel over his left shoulder to cover the “McLLROY.” It doesn’t stop there, however. The tournament organizers managed to not only misspell “McIlroy” on the caddie bib, but they also misspelled it on the score sign.

It was a bad day for the WGC-Cadillac Championship organizers, but they eventually made up for their mistakes. Rory McIlroy’s caddie was eventually given a new bib with the correct spelling about four holes into the round. Unfortunately, it was too late and the spelling gaffe had made its rounds on social media.

The spelling gaffe didn’t affect the Ulsterman too much in his first round. He had a good run until he reached the par-3 9th hole and put one in the water to eventually double bogey the hole. McIlroy finished with a (-1) 71 on the day.

The second round continues on Friday at Trump National Doral as the pack of golfers chase after leader Scott Piercy. Hopefully, they’ll spell Rory’s name correctly this time.
