Tiger Woods Making Comeback a Week Before the Masters?
By Matt Cochran
No one really knows when Tiger Woods is planning on a comeback, but some interesting rumors floating around on Twitter this week suggest he could be on his way.
UPDATE (March 18th): @TWSpot has since reported that Tiger Woods playing in the Shell Houston Open is unlikely, but his source tells him Woods will visit Augusta National sometime next week.
Area 51, the Swiss vaults, and Air Force One. All of these are some of the toughest places to get into. The one place that tops all of these is Tiger Woods’ camp.
Throughout Tiger’s career, it has been harder to get any information about Big Cat than it is to get a tee time at Pebble Beach. With such secrecy comes plenty of rumors.
Just last month, the anonymous Twitter account @SecretTourPro caused a stir after posting an update of Tiger’s recovery process. His “sources” told him that Woods was basically in the worst shape of his life and could barely even walk.
Shortly after those reports came out, we started to see more of Tiger in the media and he seemed to be just fine. He even took to Twitter to post a video of him hitting golf balls into a golf simulator with the caption, “Progressing nicely.”
He was then spotted at the Ryder Cup dinner held at Jack Nicklaus’ house during the week of the Honda Classic. Jimmy Walker went up to Tiger during that dinner and said, “Wow, you’re standing up, you’re not dead,” to which Woods responded, “I know, everyone thinks I’m dead now.”
Recently, Tiger spoke publicly for the first time since December at his new course Bluejack National outside of Houston. He had not timetable for his return, but there have been some interesting rumors floating around on Twitter as of late.
Before I get everyone’s panties in a bunch, I’ll start with a disclaimer. The information I’m about to detail comes from yet another anonymous Twitter account, so take everything with a grain of salt. I’m not saying it’s 100% true, but it’s worth discussing.
@TWspot is a Twitter account that follows Tiger news and claims to have sources close to the situation. Earlier this week he tweeted that Big Cat was see practicing at Medalist. After he tweeted this out, I direct messaged him and asked the legitimacy of his sources.
On Wednesday, the Twitter account dropped even more “information” surrounding Tiger’s comeback. They said that their “sources” and the head pro at the Golf Club of Houston have confirmed that Joe LaCava was at the site of the Shell Houston Open on Wednesday, scouting the land for three hours.
Based on that, they say Tiger Woods is targeting the Shell Houston Open, the week before the Masters, as his return to professional golf.
Again, we have to take all of this with a grain of salt. Just last month we were told one thing that turned out to not be true. However, since those false reports have come out, golf fans have seen a lot more of Big Cat making his rounds and he seems to be in good spirits.
When Tiger spoke publicly outside of Houston, he sat down with Matt Musil of KHOU-TV and Musil asked Eldrick if he’d be playing in the 2016 Shell Houston Open. Here’s what Tiger had to say:

So is Tiger Woods close to a comeback? Only those inside of Tiger’s camp know the answer to this question. But until we hear the words from Tiger’s mouth then all we can do is play the guessing game, just like we have for the past 20 years.
