Fantasy Golf Team Picks: JTBC Founders Cup
The classy dresser with the big swing is primed for this week’s contest.
Five players in Group 2 are looking very good to me: Alison Lee, Karrie Webb, Azahara Munoz, Pornanong Phatlum and Haru Nomura. Let’s take them one at a time.
Alison Lee is one of the emerging young stars on the Tour and with 3 starts, 3 cuts made and a top-10 finish at the Coates Golf Championship she’s made a solid start to her 2016 season. Lee, who finished T24 at the 2015 Founders Cup, will win this season, perhaps not this week, but at some point as the season unfolds. She’s a solid choice for your Founders Cup fantasy golf team.
Hall of Famer Karrie Webb will feel right at home on the Wildfire track. She won the inaugural event in 2011 and Wildfire is very similar to Webb’s native Australian sand hills environment. Webb started her 2016 season at the Women’s Australian Open, where she finished solo 3rd and she routinely makes the cut and plays the weekend. She’s always a solid pick.
I’m also giving Azahara Munoz a close look. The former Sun Devils player knows the track – she finished runner-up at the 2014 Founders Cup. Although Munoz has made a lackluster start to her season, like Cristie Kerr, returning to the Phoenix area is a bit of a homecoming and I’d be surprised if Munoz doesn’t have a supportive gallery of Arizona State golf team members cheering her on.
Pornanong Phatlum and Haru Nomura also have my eye. With her victory at the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open last month Nomura became a first-time LPGA champion and with a top-5 and 2 top-15 finishes in addition to her victory, Nomura’s really enjoying a strong season. Could she notch a 2nd win so quickly? Why not?
Phatlum, like Alison Lee, is on the hunt for her first Tour win and, like Lee, Phatlaum’s very likely to get that win this year. She got close two weeks ago in Singapore with a runner-up finish and, like Nomura, Phatlum’s enjoying a strong start to her season. Phatlum finished the 2015 Founders Cup at T3.
These five are all solid fantasy team picks but I think Phatlum’s primed for this week.
