Leona Maguire                    Born 1994, Cavan

Leona Maguire (ranked 1st in the amateur rankings) has a world of talent in her pocket, and an arsenal in her bag that many pros would envy.  In 2006 Maguire, who was 12, announced her arrival on the golf scene when she came in T3rd at the Under-12 World Golf Championship.

Maguire continued to build her amateur resume, collecting one prize after another, and she eventually found her way to the Duke Blue Devils golf team in 2012. At Duke the romp has continued: ACC Freshman of the Year, WGCA Player of the Year, British Ladies Amateur Champion, the Mark H. McCormack medal.

She’s recently begun dipping her sticks into professional competitions: the Ladies European Masters, The Evian Championship, last summer, while on “vacation.”

In December 2015 Maguire was named as Irish Independent Young Sportstar of the Year for 2015 and honored by the Irish Golf Writers’ as ‘Women’s Amateur of the Year’ for 2015. One can only sit back and wait impatiently for Maguire to finish up her collegiate golf career, because she’s certainly destined for domination in the professional game.
