Zurich Classic of New Orleans Top 10 Power Rankings
By Sam Belden
Justin Rose took home the hardware at last year’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Can the seven-time PGA Tour winner do it again this week?
The Zurich Classic finds the PGA TOUR in the Big Easy this week. The early part of the PGA TOUR schedule is dominated by tournaments in California and Florida, but now that we’re moving further along in the season, other parts of the country are starting to get some love. In the past four weeks, we’ve seen events in Texas, Georgia and South Carolina; now, some of the world’s best players will head to TPC Louisiana for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, continuing the Southern trend.
While it might seem like just another mid-season stop, the Zurich has an interesting history – notably, it’s given rise to a number of first-time winners in recent years. In the last 15 seasons, K.J. Choi, Nick Watney, Jason Dufner, Billy Horschel and Seung-yul Noh, among others, all found the winner’s circle for the first time at TPC Louisiana – not a bad spread of names.
Will that trend continue this year? Nine of the ten players featured in this week’s power rankings have already won on the PGA TOUR, so on paper, the chances aren’t great. However, we all know how unpredictable golf can be, so we’ll just have to wait and see if the first-timers will keep on coming.
Without further ado, let’s go ten deep. Here are this week’s best bets for success at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
