Texas Shootout Top 10 Player Power Rankings
The strong Volunteers of America Texas Shootout field promises a hotly contended contest this week.
The Texas Shootout takes the LPGA from the Bay Area to the DFW area and the Las Colinas Country Club. It’s a fine setting for a golf tournament. The golf course is built on the old El Ranchito de las Colinas on lush rolling hills that were once Texas cattle country.
The players will probably enjoy Joe Fingers bent grass greens that are nestled into a track surrounded by old growth prairie foliage. It’s going to require a shift in gears for those who negotiated Lake Merced last week at the Swinging Skirts. They’ll probably also welcome the warmer weather in Texas. There’s some rain in the forecast for Friday and Saturday but even with the rain daytime temperatures will range from the mid-70s to the mid-80s and the winds will be light compared to what they endured at Lake Merced.
This has been Stacy Lewis’s and Inbee Park’s tournament, but don’t look for that to continue. The field this year is packed with players who are eager and ready to challenge the Tour’s Old Guard. They’ve already done just that this season, and I’m looking for this week to continue that process.
Let’s take a look at the 10 players I see as most likely to challenge the top of the leaderboard this week, starting with Gerina Piller, who will be playing on home ground this week.
