Jack Nicklaus’ Memorial Tournament always provides a fitting stage for some dynamite golf.

The Memorial Tournament is rightly named. It’s the moment when the game pays tribute to the greatest of them all – 18-major winner Jack Nicklaus.

The PGA TOUR is rightly focused on growing the game and enticing younger generations of fans, but it always seems to be keeping one eye on the past. One of the great things about golf is that it never forgets the legends who dominated the game in years gone by – this year, as we do every year, we’ve already seen whole weeks of golf dedicated to the legacies of Arnold Palmer and Byron Nelson. Now it’s Jack’s turn.

In the early 1970s, Nicklaus, already a legend of the game, decided he wanted to establish a tournament near his hometown of Columbus, Ohio, and by 1976, the Memorial Tournament was born. Played at Muirfield Village, it is an invitational event that serves as a kind of celebration of the sport’s merits. Every year, a significant figure from the golf world is chosen as the week’s special honoree – Johnny Miller will be this season’s; names like Nick Faldo, Tom Watson and Nancy Lopez have also been honored at the Memorial Tournament in recent years.

Of course, the award ceremony will only serve to supplement the week of outstanding golf that lies ahead. The PGA TOUR’s best always show up in droves to pay tribute to the Golden Bear, and this year is no exception – seven of the top ten in the world rankings will be in attendance.

Without further ado, let’s get to it. Here are this week’s best bets for success at the Memorial Tournament.
