SUNNINGDALE, ENGLAND – JULY 25: Nick Faldo of England acknowledges the crowd on the 11th green during completion of the second round of The Senior Open Championship on the Old Course at Sunningdale Golf Club on July 25, 2015 in Sunningdale, England. (Photo by Warren Little/Getty Images) /

5. Nick Faldo

Time at the top: 97 weeks

Known for his precision and attention to detail, Faldo had the prototypical mindset of a world number one. He was consistent, unmatched in course preparation and never gave an inch to his opponents. It’s easy to argue that he wasn’t the most talented golfer in many areas, but he had a demeanor that said he wasn’t there to make friends or show off for the cameras. He was there to win.

Since climbing into the booth for CBS Sports over a decade ago, some of Faldo’s layers have been peeled off to reveal a more fun-loving personality compared to the steely exterior he often presented as a player. Not one to often toot his own horn on air, his achievements are starting to become somewhat forgotten. Nonetheless, Faldo was a fixture in the ’80s and ’90s, evidenced by his six major championships and 97 weeks at No. 1. Sir Nick is royalty in this ranking.
