1. Tiger Woods

Time at the top: 683 weeks

Not much of a surprise to see this man here, huh? During his heyday, Woods transcended his own sport. He was the top athlete in the world for years, a claim that no one else on this list can convincingly claim.

Plus, when you’ve spent more weeks at the top of the OWGR than the next five players combined, it’s a slam dunk. The discussion that is more pertinent is whether Tiger can ever get to No. 1 again. His last week on top was in May 2014 and at 40 years old and with a lot of mileage on the tires, it will take a significant turnaround. It’s fascinating how a player of his caliber just fell out of the top 600 in the world like he did, even accounting for poor health. He won the 2008 U.S. Open on one leg, for heaven’s sake! It will be equally fascinating to follow his last gasps at trying to get back to the OWGR summit.
