13. Fred Couples

Time at the top: 16 weeks

For years, Boom Boom was the face of the PGA Tour and commanded galleries that others higher on this list would admire.

It’s easy to forget that Freddie won just one major, the 1992 Masters. His easy-going attitude and appearance helped him become a fan favorite, even when multiple majors and a healthy back weren’t in the cards.

Thanks to his aforementioned victory at Augusta, Couples spent 16 weeks at the top in 1992. When you complement that with 15 PGA Tour victories and several near-misses at the majors, it’s no fluke that Couples reached No. 1, and he likely would have resided there for longer if not for health issues that plagued patches of his career.
