In 1982, Tom Watson captured his fourth British Open title, the most of any American.
In 1982, Tom Watson won The Open Championship for a fourth time, an amazing feat for any player. Watson outlasted Peter Oosterhuis and Nick Price to win the Claret Jug by one stroke. He did this by carrying over his momentum from his U.S. Open win earlier that year. He became the fifth person to win both the U.S. Open and the British Open in the same calendar year (Bobby Jones, Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan and Lee Trevino had already turned the trick, while Tiger Woods pulled it off nearly two decades later).
