In 1997, a young Justin Leonard outlasted veterans Jesper Parnevik and Darren Clarke.

At the age of 25, Texas native Justin Leonard won The Open Championship at Royal Troon by showing amazing resiliency. After an average third round score of 72, Leonard shot a final round 65 to finish five-under for the tournament and leapfrog many would-be contenders. Later in his career, Leonard had a chance to win another Open thanks to Jean Van de Velde’s epic collapse in 1999.
