Does Marcus Fraser Have What It Takes To Hold On?

As a player who has never finished better than 20th in a Major, Marcus Fraser is in for quite the test of his nerve this weekend.

A seasoned professional, Fraser doesn’t lack experience, but he has yet to really prove himself against a field of this quality. Fraser has won three times on the European Tour over the years, but those wins haven’t exactly come in marquee events.

Fraser’s first win on tour came in the Russian Open back in 2003, an event that was co-sanctioned with the Challenge Tour due to clashing with the PGA Championship, where many of Europe’s very best golfers were playing.

Fraser’s two more recent wins have arrived on the Asian leg of the European Tour. His highest profile win came at the Ballantines Championship in South Korea in 2010. Although not a grade A field, the presence of Ernie Els, Henrik Stenson and Graeme McDowell certainly makes it noteworthy.

Earlier this season, Fraser won at the Maybank Championship Malaysia, but again the quality of the field left a little to be desired.

This week marks a significant step up in competition and attention for Fraser. He’s played beautifully so far, but can he maintain that play as the potential of a spot on the podium draws ever nearer? Only time will tell.
