Will The Major Champions Bring The Heat At The Weekend?

If it’s true that when the going gets tough, the tough get going, there are a number of former major champions ominously positioned and perhaps ready to seize control of the tournament over the weekend.

Without doubt, the most prominent of the bunch is Henrik Stenson, arguably the most in-form player in the world right now.

Coming off the back of an outstanding Open Championship win that culminated with possibly the best final round in major history, Stenson maintained his stellar play in going very close at the PGA Championship, and now sits at eight-under-par, only two shots back at the halfway point in Rio.

Stenson isn’t the only Major champion positioned to make a big move though.

The US Open champion of 2013, Justin Rose is currently in a tie for fourth, only four strokes off Marcus Fraser’s lead. Rose has already made history this week having scored the first hole-in-one recorded in Olympic history, and his game is certainly good enough to push for gold.

Further down the leaderboard you’ll find the aforementioned Bubba Watson at two-under, with a trio of Major champions in Danny Willett, Martin Kaymer and Padraig Harrington only one shot further back.

There’s no shortage of proven winners in the mix, now it’s just a question of who, or how many of them, can provide the weekend challenge.
