Despite the four biggest events of the year now being complete, the FedEx Cup and Ryder Cup ensure that there is still plenty of important golf to be played this year.

All the top players in the world will tell you that they try to peak their games four times a year. Of course, we all know what those events are, the Masters, U.S. Open, Open Championship, and PGA Championship.

The majors are the most prestigious tournaments in the world and so much work is put into preparing for them. So with all of them now in the books is there anything left for the top players in the world to work towards? The answer is yes.

Coming up is a four tournament stretch that make up the FedExCup playoffs. Throughout the season all the players have been accumulating points to try to put themselves in a good position heading into the playoffs.

The top-125 in FedExCup points will qualify for the first event at the Barclays and then the field will be cut down each event until the final 30 are set to compete in the TOUR Championship at East Lake where they will look to take home the FedExCup and the $10 million bonus.

Now, a lot of players have different viewpoints about the playoffs. Some see it as an opportunity to close the year strong and others don’t really see the point of having playoffs in golf.

To me the playoffs is what you make it. The players that are striving to take home that FedExCup are the ones that year in and year out are the one’s contending for it at East Lake.

Just look what happened last year. Jason Day took home victories at the Barclays and BMW Championship and Jordan Spieth took home victory at the TOUR Championship to win the FedExCup.

Day’s run in the playoffs last year put him in excellent position to where he’s now holding a commanding lead in the Official World Golf Rankings. While Spieth said in perpetration for the TOUR Championship that he approached that week as if it was a major championship. Clearly it meant a lot to both players and that’s why they found so much success.

Even after the playoffs the important golf is not over this year. The most rowdy and exciting golf you will see will take place in the Ryder Cup when it heads to Hazeltine in late September. The U.S. will be looking to take their first victory in the event since 2008. Europe has been flat out dominant in this event. There is definite reason to be excited if you are a fan of the Americans.

American golf is transitioning from some of its veterans of days past to a large group of young studs who have no fear.

Jordan Spieth is no doubt the face of American golf, but with guys like Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, and Patrick Reed all playing well right now there is certainly plenty of firepower for captain Davis Love to work with.

The major key for the U.S. will be making putts in the singles matches. That has been where Europe has been able to hold the advantage over the Americans and they will need to prove that they can hold up under the pressure.
