Pulling off an effective chip can be one of the tougher short game shots in golf, especially if you’re trying to hit onto a fast green. Today’s golf tip can help you improve.

Today’s golf tip will help you hit better shots from just off the green. When chipping, always be sure to pre-set your weight to your front foot. You should lean with a slight majority of the weight towards your target. Pretend your back foot is sore and allow the front to carry more weight.

When leaning forward like this, always make sure to adjust your shaft proportionally. This will result in the hands being ahead of the blade and will “de-loft” your club for more run. Pitching wedges will often roll for twice as long as they carry using this setup.

Keep the majority of your weight forward, just as it was in setup throughout the motion of the chip shot. There is no need to rock the weight back and forth — doing this only increases your chances of hitting the chip fat or thin as a result of your swing bottoming out while you strike the ball from the trail foot.

Keeping a slight majority of your weight on your lead foot can expand to longer pitches, as well as shots over 150 yards! Begin by leaning how to keep the weight forward on your chips, with a letter “Y” swing that uses minimal wrists.
