Waste Management Phoenix Open: 5 Groups to Watch
2. Justin Thomas, Phil Mickelson and Adam Hadwin: 1st round tee time 2:07pm ET
This group holds two of the newest members of the “59” club, Justin Thomas and Adam Hadwin. With the youthful likes of Thomas and Hadwin, Phil Mickleson is a seasoned veteran looking to teach some lessons to the young guns.
Justin Thomas is off to a scorcher in 2017, picking up back-to-back wins on the Hawaiian Islands. Thomas already has three wins this season as he looks down the FedEx Cup standings from his #1 spot. From the looks of it so far JT is going to have a career year looking to take his game to the next level. He is already doing that thanks to his performance so far in 2017. Without a doubt in my mind JT will be in the final grouping come Sunday. There may be no stopping this golfing machine.
“Lefty” is back once again at TPC Scottsdale in search for his 4th win here in the desert. Mickelson almost joined the “59” club here four years back when he lipped out a putt that would have given him the magic number. Mickelson’s wins came in 2013, 2005 and 1996. Look for Phil to impress you with his precise short game like he has done his entire career and make a run for his fourth title here.
Adam Hadwin is trending recently thanks to his miraculous “59” in the third round of the Career Builder Challenge, and looks good for a 2nd place finish. Without a question Hadwin is playing the best golf of his life now and looks to top it off with positive result this week. Hadwin has played in six events so far this season coming in with two top 10’s. Could this be the Canadian born’s first career win, eh?
