Marcus Fraser

Speaking of Aussies who’ve placed T15 at Perth, I bring you Marcus Fraser. The 36-year-old from Corowa, New South Wales, showed he could go low at Lake Karrinyup in 2016. He posted a third-round 65 to vault into contention before fizzling with a 73 to close to fall outside the top 10.

The current world No. 137 is one of the higher ranked players in the World Super 6 Perth field thanks to a T3 at the Victorian PGA Championship last week and a T10 at the UBS Hong Kong Open in December.

Fraser has a scant match play record in the professional ranks. He went 0-2-1 and did not advance to the knockout rounds at the 2016 WGC-Dell Match Play. He halved Shane Lowry in between 4&3 losses to Zach Johnson and Martin Kaymer. Fraser missed the cut at the European Tour’s Paul Lawrie Match Play in ’16.

All that considered, Fraser won’t be battling an all-star cast in Perth. The field features just two top-25 players in the world and three in the top 100. A younger golfer might get more of a kick out of this week’s tournament, but it could be a veteran that holds up well in a knockout format. Six-time winner, Fraser, could be that veteran this week.
