PGA Tour Top Five Fantasy Picks: Genesis Open
By Sam Belden
Bill Haas — $8,000
He’s one of the least flashy players in golf, but this Wake Forest product has the all-around game to consistently rank near the top of the PGA Tour. Haas is so steady year in and year out — it’s pretty hard to believe that it’s been more than two years since he hoisted his last trophy at the 2015 CareerBuilder Challenge.
Fortunately for Haas, he’s trending really well right now. The 34-year-old has been posting solid result after solid result in the 2016-17 season — all told, he’s collected five top 20 finishes in as many starts, including a tie for fourth at the WGC-HSBC Champions in October and a tie for 17th at the CareerBuilder Challenge most recently. If things keep going right, he’s got a great chance to put an end to his victory drought this Sunday. Remember, he came out on top in a playoff at the 2012 Genesis Open, so we know he has what it takes to tame the course.
At $8,000 in DraftKings, Haas is available at a fair salary this week, especially for a past champion. If you can overlook his mediocre results at Riviera in the past two years, then he’s worth a play — his outstanding form practically demands it.
