PGA Tour Fantasy Picks: Honda Classic
By Sam Belden
Louis Oosthuizen — $9,400
If staying healthy were this South African’s specialty, he’d have compiled a fairly substantial record of results at the Honda Classic. However, we all know that Oosthuizen’s body is usually his biggest obstacle to success. His history at PGA National includes two mid-tournament withdrawals and two pre-tournament withdrawals to go along with a missed cut in 2013. Nevertheless, his current form makes him an ideal risky play, so I’m giving him a shout out as one of my fantasy picks this week.
Currently on a streak of back-to-back top five finishes, Oosthuizen looks free of the injury troubles that have plagued him over the last half-decade. As usual, his game has been traveling well — after riding a sterling short game week to a solo third at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, he finished fifth at the World Super 6 Perth just last week, so he shouldn’t be fazed by another quick turnaround. Unsurprisingly, he’s been one of the most well-rounded competitors in the new PGA Tour season, ranking an impressive fifth in strokes gained: tee-to-green.
While his past results at the Honda might not inspire much confidence, remember that it’s been four years since Oosthuizen so much as logged a competitive round at PGA National. With that in mind, it makes sense to take a gamble on his form this week.
